What is RailPulse?
RailPulse is an end-to-end digital platform that provides a standardized technology infrastructure across the rail supply chain to track the location, condition and health of railcars. It was created by a coalition of forward-thinking railcar owners to drive improved collaboration and performance across North American rail-based supply chains.
What sensors do I need to install on my railcars?
RailPulse supports a wide range of GPS and telemetry sensors that are approved for use with the platform. The mandatory devices that all RailPulse subscribers must apply include GPS, Impact and Load/Empty sensors. Refer to the RailPulse Data page for more information about other devices.
What resources are available to get started with RailPulse?
RailPulse subscribers can leverage RailPulse’s standard SLA with RailPulse Certified Telematics Vendors, access device performance data, and review installation recommendations for various car types.
How is RailPulse data shared?
The rules for accessing data in the RailPulse system are modeled on the rules that are accepted and currently implemented in the North American railroad industry for accessing railroad data from RailInc.
How much does it cost to be a RailPulse subscriber (railcar owner)?
RailPulse costs for railcar owners include the initial cost to equip railcars, monthly vendor data fees and a RailPulse platform subscription. Learn more about getting started.
How much does it cost to join RailPulse if I don’t own railcars?
Shipper companies that don’t own or subscribe railcars can request access to Service Data on railcars when they are named on a waybill for no charge from RailPulse. Railcar lessees that don’t own or subscribe railcars can request access from their lessors to Subscriber Data on the railcars they lease for no charge from RailPulse. What if I already equipped my railcars with telemetry sensors?

Is RailPulse manufacturing telemetry devices?
RailPulse is not manufacturing devices. RailPulse is solely creating open and neutral standards for the supplier base. Industry participants will directly decide what technological solutions they want. RailPulse has created a platform with a set of rules that are transparent, predictable, and fairly applied across all device vendors.
