From Launch to Leadership: Reflecting on Our Journey 

Since our official launch on September 3, 2024, RailPulse has made significant strides in reshaping the rail industry. Over the past year, we’ve achieved extraordinary growth in platform adoption. This milestone was made possible through a successful CRISI Grant pilot, planned installations and contributions from our coalition members, and adoption from subscribers taking advantage of the dramatic 17x increase in data provided by telematics versus current CLM processes. Together, these efforts have propelled RailPulse forward, demonstrating the industry’s enthusiasm for modern, data-driven solutions.   

Revolutionizing Railcar Telematics 

RailPulse, LLC is a coalition-driven initiative transforming rail shipping with a neutral, open-architecture platform that provides real-time railcar data. By leveraging advanced GPS and sensor technologies, the platform enhances visibility, safety, sustainability, and efficiency across North America’s rail-based supply chains. RailPulse aggregates and enriches data from a variety of sources to deliver near real-time insights into railcar location, condition, and health, empowering stakeholders with valuable information for informed decision-making. 

• Location and Movement: Monitor shipments with unmatched accuracy. Visibility of inbound empty railcars to aid planning.   

• Safety Features: Track handbrake engagement, door/hatch status, and impact events. 

• Operational Optimization: Geofencing, custom alerts, accelerated load/empty notification and detailed reporting to streamline fleet management.   

With industry-wide telematics infrastructure, data-driven transformation, and enhanced service and visibility, RailPulse provides a common, vendor-neutral platform that benefits the entire rail ecosystem. It empowers shippers and stakeholders to make smarter, more informed supply chain decisions and optimize their operations. 

2024 Highlights and Momentum 

• Expansion Through Collaboration: Partnered with 3 certified telemetry vendor partners to ensure seamless integration and scalability. We’re actively onboarding two additional vendors, expected to become certified by Q1 2025, as we continue to enhance the railcar telematics ecosystem. 

• Fleet Transformation: With RailPulse partners collectively owning nearly 35% of the North American railcar fleet, telematics adoption is poised for further growth in 2025. 

• Driving Efficiency: Boosted fleet utilization and reduced downtime, delivering measurable productivity improvements across the supply chain. 

Impacting the Rail Industry 

RailPulse has fostered unprecedented collaboration between railcar owners including Shippers, Lessors, Class I railroads and Short-line railroads. Our continuously growing coalition allows us to better validate the confidence of our data through contributions from coalition members, customers, and subscribers. By empowering stakeholders to make informed decisions, our platform enhances supply chain visibility, operational efficiency, and overall safety.   

Expanding Opportunities for Industry Players 

RailPulse is now open for enrollment and invites railcar owners to join our initiative. Participants gain access to their own railcar data while benefiting from shared insights across instrumented railcars within their rail supply chain. Certified telemetry vendors play a crucial role in expanding the platform, and RailPulse offers a certification program to ensure the platform becomes the industry standard for railcar telemetry.

• Proving value through real-world case studies.  

• Continuing to enhance telematic innovation with our certified vendor partners to improve the overall telematics product (ie track-level visibility, impact, etc.)  

• Expanding the adoption of railcars in the RailPulse ecosystem to build density in the marketplace and deliver quality data to create supply chain efficiencies.
