EQUIPPING RAILCARS
RailPulse has documented the physical requirements for sensor installation and identified RailPulse Certified Telematics Vendors who can provide the required hardware to accelerate implementation. Before registering their railcars, owners must equip them with telematics devices using a certified vendor.
TELEMETRY DEVICE AGNOSTIC
The RailPulse platform is designed to accept all types of railcar telemetry data to support any measurement on the location, condition, and health of a railcar that could facilitate the service and safety of the rail industry. RailPulse requires a minimal array of measurements from sensors on all railcars. Additional devices are optional and can be installed based on the requirements of the subscriber.

APPROVED VS. EXPERIMENTAL DEVICES
RailPulse classifies telematic devices as approved or experimental. Measurements from approved devices may be shared with authorized parties to facilitate safe and efficient rail service. Data from experimental devices is available to the subscriber for their use only. Based on the value of the data for efficient and safe rail service, and once the effectiveness of the devices is validated, measurements from experimental devices may be approved by the RailPulse coalition for sharing.
RAILPULSE OFFERS INSTALLATION GUIDELINES
RailPulse can provide specific installation instructions for telematic equipment by railcar type to guide you. Guidelines include those for installation location for best performance, naming conventions for consistency, and templates for AAR S-2045 submission. RailPulse can recommend service companies that can perform installations.
